Five Singaporeans will be among the 7000 people worldwide participating in the Beijing Olympic torch relay next year. A Channel NewsAsia sports reporter and heads from Singapore three telcoms - M1, SingTel and StarHub form the team of torch-bearers representing Singapore.

Patwant Singh, the sports journalist, says: “It’s a rare honour and privilege, but more than that, I think it shows that you do not have to be a competitive athlete to be part of the Olympic movement. And besides that, also being part of this historic moment, I’m not representing myself as an individual, but also my organisation and to some extent my country.”

Being part of Olympic history sure feels great.
