Larisa Ilchenko of Russia used 1 hour 59 minutes and 27.7 seconds to bag the Women’s 10km Marathon Swimming gold. Keri-Anne Payne and Cassandra Patten, both from Britain, took silver and brozne respectively.

Very tough event, all the competitors really have to produce the goods. Larisa Ilchenko is truly awesome and will probably get even better. It was also lovely to see Natalie Du Toit do so well. The only downside is that in comparison it makes me wonder anew why synchro swimming is regarded as a genuine Olympic sport!

C’mon those girls spend up to 7-8 hours in the water every day. No less demanding than most other sports that based on endurance. We don’t dispute shooting, softball, archery, fencing, equestrian, etc and rightfully so.
