Gyorgy Kolonics Sudden Death In His Canoe, When Practising For Beijing Olympics
News July 17th, 2008

Gyorgy Kolonics, two-time Olympic gold medalist, died in his canoe during a training for the Beijing Olympics on Tuesday. The Hungarian Olympic Committee cited heart failure as the possible cause for the 36-year-old sudden death.
“Kolonics was a true legend of Hungarian sports, an athlete at the peak of his career who was in a class by himself,鈥 committee president Pal Schmitt said in a statement. Kolonics won Olympic gold medals in the 500-meter canoe doubles at the 1996 Atlanta Games and in the 500-meter singles at the 2000 Sydney Games.
Our condolences.
