With the pace of smart phones evolution moving so fast, there is always something waiting in the wings. As soon as you’ve peeked at the last gadget, there’s anticipation for the next big thing.
Here we look at those phones that haven’t been released yet, the upcoming phones for 2022. We will be updating this list regularly, with those handset rumors that we find credible and exciting.
As for handsets already released, we’ve rounded up the best smartphones for 2022 elsewhere – the ones we think are the best across all platforms. If your budget is a little smaller, there’s also our smartphone budget for under £200 – and there’s an average rounding up to £400 too.
The Motorola Frontier is considered a flagship-level phone from Moto, with a 194-megapixel main camera, 6.7-inch display with 144Hz and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 power at its heart. Rumors say he may not appear until July 2022.
Vivo has confirmed that the X80 series will launch in China on April 25, but there is no news of a global launch. There’s a Zeiss camera on the back, but we expect MediaTek Dimensity 9000 power, 80W charge and Android 12, with a 6.78-inch AMOLED display.
While there have been many rumors surrounding a Nokia 9 PureView replacement , the trail seems to have cooled, suggesting that Nokia could release a five-camera Nokia 8.3 replacement – and possibly called the Nokia X50 . This could have a 6.5-inch screen, run Snapdragon 700-series hardware, and have a 108-megapixel main camera. We are now looking at a 2022 release.
No phone (1)
Carl Pei Nada’s new company plans to launch a smartphone, called Nothing phone (1). The timeline for the release is unclear, but we are expecting it in the summer of 2022. It will be powered by Qualcomm, run Android, and offer a minimalist, bloatware-free take. We’re hoping he has a translucent comeback.
Xiaomi 12 Ultra
While Xiaomi launched the Xiaomi 12 at Mobile World Congress, there are rumors that there is a working Xiaomi 12 Ultra and it could be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus. It is expected to be released in the third quarter of 2022.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4
Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy Z Fold 4 with a big event in 2022. We’re very much expecting the same size and design as the Z Fold 3, but it will reportedly be thinner. We’re expecting a big push on this phone, but we’re not expecting it to include the S Pen.
Google Pixel 7 & 7 Pro
Google has made the unpredictable move of confirming the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro project. The camera bar on the back is now aluminum like the rest of the frame – and we’re also expecting this phone to launch with the Tensor 2. The tease was made at Google I/O 2022 – but the release date isn’t expected until October 2022.
Google has fostered an option in contrast to the under-show camera (UDC), an innovation spearheaded by any semblance of Samsung, Xiaomi and ZTE. As per Digital Chat Station, Google’s development will bring about a poke without hole show while likewise staying away from the intricacies and visual disadvantages of Samsung’s UDC arrangements. Apparently, Google’s strategy won’t slow down the forward looking camera’s picture quality either, one more disadvantage of the UDC in the Galaxy Z Fold3.
In particular, Digital Chat Station discusses a ‘super miniature opening camera’, which doesn’t sit inside the actual presentation. All things considered, the leaker guarantees that Google has incorporated the Pixel Fold’s inside forward looking camera inside the gadget’s edge. Subsequently, this arrangement ought to influence the showcase by any stretch of the imagination and won’t make an unattractive imprint, similarly as with the Galaxy Z Fold3. Sadly, it is not yet clear the way that this will search face to face and whether Google will fall back on a dark bezel in which to oblige its ‘super miniature opening camera’.
Also, the leaker reports that the Pixel Fold acquires vigorously from the Pixel 7. Purportedly, the Pixel Fold includes its kin’s back plan, as well as its cameras. As it turns out, this tolls with disclosures made by engineer Kuba Wojciechowski, who guaranteed last month that Android 13 Beta records Google’s unreleased foldable cell phone as having the ISOCELL GN1, Sony IMX363, Sony IMX386 and Sony IMX355 camera sensors. Besides, the Pixel Fold likewise has a more modest structure factor than the forthcoming Galaxy Z Fold4, which prior Android 13 Beta forms seemed to affirm as well. A delivery date for the Pixel Fold stays obscure, in spite of the fact that it is supposed to depend on Google’s second-age Tensor chipset.
