This IS historical, too! …but is being ‘drowned-out’ by all the ‘noise’ on Phelps and superstar 41 year old Dara Torres–Dara, who, by the way, I admire immensely.
Tunisia’s historical first INDIVIDUAL gold medal in swimming!! Not to mention, an African male in a long distance race! I mean, how many black swimmers have their been–less than two handfuls–Melia Melleta from France , Enith Brigitha of The Netherlands,
Nesty Anthony of Suriname, Neisser Bent of Cuba, Anthony Ervin & Cullen Jones of the USA, Maritza Correia.
BTW: Black people DO like to swim competitively. I can attest. I swam competitively as a teenager. But a lot of black swimmers in the USA are hampered by the costs, lack of access to swimming facilities/coaches, and because it’s a hair thang.
