Bird’s Nest Cash

It’s always struck me as a bit odd that the founder of Communist China would have his face printed on banknotes — the quintessential symbol of capitalism.

Apparently, the Chinese government has also realized this contradiction and has consequently dropped the Chairman from their latest edition of the 10RMB bill. Instead of Mao’s sunny face, Chinese consumers will now be paying for lunch and taxi rides with money that features the Bird’s Nest on one side and the image of an ancient Grecian discus thrower on the other.

I guess we’ll have to find a new name for our Maobacks.
