Bill Gates has sort of retired officially from Microsoft but there is (fake) news (by a crazy land agent) that he has spent 100 million yuan ($14.7 million) to rent a 1000 square-meter Chinese traditional courtyard (鍥涘悎闄, Si Heyuan) which is at close proximity to the Beijing Olympic Stadium and the Water Cube.
A siheyuan (Chinese: 鍥涘悎闄; pinyin: s矛h茅yu脿n) is a historical type of residence that was commonly found throughout China, most famously in Beijing. The name literally means a courtyard surrounded by four buildings. In English, siheyuan are sometimes referred to as Chinese quadrangles. Throughout Chinese history, the siheyuan composition was the basic pattern used for residences, palaces, temples, monasteries, family, businesses and government offices. In ancient times, a spacious siheyuan would be occupied by a single family, signifying wealth and prosperity. Today, however, most remaining siheyuan are used as mass housing complexes, and suffer from a lack of modern amenities.
I wonder if Bill is going to the Olympics…
